Botswana Telecom BTC is the incumbent supplier of telecommunication services within Botswana, offering wireline services to consumers and businesses. With impending market deregulation at that time, BTC recognised the need to make significant improvements within the organisation, in order compete with new market entrants.

Challenge

  • BTC required an independent systems implementation partner
    with a strong track record in organisation restructuring and skills transfer to drive through a new regime for business support processes and systems.
  • The primary focus was on managing the design and implementation on behalf of BTC of a new suite of customerfacing systems: billing, order management, mediation, interconnect and fault tracking.

Project Scope

  • Planned and managed the work: structured the organisation of the programme, providing training to key staff; negotiated with and managed the main contractor; established the business readiness plan.
  • Provided a test team to validate the vendor deliveries and perform reconciliation on the migration to the new billing system.
  • A co-sourcing approach was adopted entailing close working with the client's staff to ensure maximum effective skills transfer the majority of team leaders and project staff were BTC employees.
